We’re delighted to announce that Equator and HCA Healthcare UK have been shortlisted at the UK Content Awards 2026 in the category Best Search Campaign of the Year. It’s a recognition that reflects over twelve months of close collaboration, clinical rigour, and genuinely purposeful digital work that all teams are very proud of.
Built for Complex Challenges: Who Are Equator?

Equator is a digital transformation and delivery partner with deep experience across complex regulated sectors, including healthcare. With a team of around 150 specialists spanning strategy, integrated marketing, UX design and technology, we work with major organisations to build digital products and experiences that genuinely serve the people who use them. Healthcare holds particular importance for us as it’s a space where clear, trustworthy digital journeys can directly influence life-transforming patient outcomes.
The People Behind the Partnership: HCA Healthcare UK

HCA Healthcare UK is the UK’s leading private healthcare provider, with a network of hospitals, clinics and specialist centres across London, Birmingham and Manchester. Offering everything from consultations and diagnostic tests to complex surgical procedures, HCA UK serves hundreds of thousands of patients each year seeking high-quality private medical care. Their digital presence on-site plays a central role in helping patients find the right healthcare pathway.
Putting Patients First: The Content Renewal Programme
Following HCA Healthcare UK’s website replatform in July 2024, both teams identified a clear opportunity: the content needed to evolve to better serve patients actively searching for fast access and efficient private healthcare. The goal was to move away from the encyclopaedic approach of broadly covering the background of specific conditions and instead update templates to align with real user intent, and create content designed to guide patients confidently towards a booking.
What followed was our Content Renewal Programme. Spanning more than a year, this was a systematic, data-led effort to transform 350+ high-value pages across Conditions, Treatments, Tests and Scans, Locations and Services folders. These pages were all implemented in 2025, with a further 100+ pages rolled out in 2026.
Central to the approach was grounding content priorities in real patient behaviour rather than estimated search volumes. By analysing twelve months of paid search conversion data, the team identified which searches were actually driving bookings and built the content strategy around those signals. Scalable page templates were developed to create consistent, clear patient journeys, with prominent booking pathways, expectation-setting content and FAQs designed to meet patients at the right moment in their decision-making.
Search Insight, Clinical Rigour and One Shared Goal
What set this programme apart was the genuine depth of collaboration between Equator, HCA Healthcare UK and the team of copywriters. This wasn’t a conventional agency-client relationship; it was an extensive collaboration, with Equator’s integrated search specialists, strategists and UX designers working hand in hand with HCA’s internal marketing and digital teams, external specialist copywriters, and critically, practising HCA medical specialists.
Every page was co-authored and reviewed by a relevant specialist consultant. As Google and other search engines place ever greater weight on Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness (EEAT) and as AI-driven search accelerates that shift, having real clinical voices actively shaping content is a genuine competitive advantage. The clinicians brought their specialist knowledge directly to the writing process, ensuring every piece of content carried the depth and accuracy that patients require and that search engines and LLMs increasingly reward.
Results That Matter: Delivered in a Changing Landscape
The Content Renewal Programme didn’t just meet its original targets, it surpassed them. Refreshed pages delivered twice the conversion uplift of non-refreshed content, providing clear evidence that the gains were driven by the content itself rather than wider market conditions. Conversion rates increased significantly year-on-year, and overall search net revenue achieved double-digit growth, exceeding our own targets by five percentage points.
These results are especially meaningful given how dramatically the search landscape has shifted. The continued rise of AI Overviews and zero-click searches has changed how organic traffic flows. Users are increasingly getting answers without ever clicking through to a website. We collectively had to rethink which content mattered most, ensuring HCA Healthcare UK’s pages were structured to remain visible and valuable for the complex, conversational queries that today’s patients ask. By prioritising clinical authority, structured data and content built around patient intent, the programme has positioned HCA Healthcare UK well for the direction search is heading.
Abigail Comber, VP of Marketing & Patient Experience at HCA Healthcare UK, commented:
“We’ve been genuinely delighted with the results delivered so far. The impact this work has already had on patient engagement and bookings is a testament to the dedication and expertise across our clinicians, internal teams, and Equator. We’re confident this approach has laid the foundations for long-term success, and we’re looking forward to seeing how the strategy continues to deliver as it evolves in an increasingly complex search landscape.”
Recognising Work with Real-world Impact
Being shortlisted at the UK Content Awards is something the whole Equator team is genuinely proud of. This project brought together specialists from multiple teams across integrated search, digital strategy, UX design, client success services and project management. The shortlist reflects the collective care and commitment each member brought throughout the project.
What makes this recognition especially meaningful is the nature of the work. Helping people find clear, accurate, trustworthy information when they’re making life-changing healthcare decisions is about as purposeful as digital work gets. The programme didn’t just improve search metrics, it made it easier for real patients to access the information they need at a moment that matters to them.
This project captures what Equator values most: a thoughtful, people-first digital transformation that delivers results and makes complex journeys easier to navigate.
London Calling for Awards Night
We are very much looking forward to making the trip down from Glasgow for the awards ceremony in London on June 11th. Having attended Don’t Panic Events’ Search Awards ceremonies before, we know to expect a brilliant night, and we’re proud to be celebrating with HCA UK and the other finalists.
